Family Preservation has become an important national, state and county priority and is currently
the largest and most significant children's services prevention program in California. The sole purpose
of the program is to ensure that more children safely remain in their own home.

The Los Angeles County Family Preservation Program, established since January 1992, is an integrated, comprehensive approach to strengthening and preserving families who are at risk of already experiencing problems in family functioning that may lead to the break up of the family. The goal of the Family Preservation Program is to assure the physical, emotional, social, educational, cultural, spiritual development of children in a safe and nurturing environment.
In April 1995, the Inglewood/Lennox Family Preservation Network was formed as a comprehensive community-based network of services to protect children while they remain with their parents. The Network elected the Institute for Black Parenting as the lead agency responsible for the administrative activities of the Network.
How Does It Work?
The Department of Children and Family Services and Probation will refer their families and youth to the Inglewood/Lennox Family Preservation Network for child welfare and probation services. The county retains legal responsibility for adherence with state requirements for children and youth under their jurisdiction; hence, numerous safeguards are built into the program to ensure the safety of the children.
